2024/2025 PTDF OVERSEAS POSTGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP SCHEME

If you want to study abroad and learn more about the oil and gas industry, you can apply for the PTDF Overseas Postgraduate Scholarship. Who Can Apply?

For MSc Applicants:

You need at least a Second Class Upper (2.1) in your first degree or a Second Class Lower (2.2) with relevant industry experience.
You must have finished your National Youth Service (NYSC).

You must have 5 O/level credits, including English Language and Mathematics.
Write a short statement (maximum 500 words) explaining why you want to study, how it connects to the industry, and how it can help the country.
You need a National Identity Number (NIN), and make sure it’s verified before applying.

For PhD Applicants:

You must have completed your National Youth Service (NYSC).
You should be good with computers.
You must have 5 O/level credits, including English Language and Mathematics.
You need at least a Second Class Lower (2.2) in your first degree and a good post-graduate degree.
Prepare a short research proposal (not more than five pages) about the oil and gas industry. Include the topic, introduction, objective, methodology, and how you will collect data.
If you’re a lecturer, get a letter from your Vice Chancellor saying you’re not getting any other scholarships.
You need a National Identity Number (NIN), and make sure it’s verified before applying.

What Does the Scholarship Include?

If you get the scholarship, PTDF will help with:

Flight tickets
Health insurance
Tuition and bench fees (if needed)
Allowances for accommodation and living expenses

Selection Process and Criteria for PTDF Scholarships

Top candidates from each state in every category, determined by their submitted qualifications, will receive invitations for an interview. During this interview, a selection committee will be formed to assess applications, utilizing the following criteria:

1. Academic Merit:
   • Quality of degrees
   • Full academic transcripts
   • Other professional qualifications acquired
2. Relevant Publications:
   • (Applicable to PhD applicants only)
3. Membership of Professional Bodies:
   • Demonstrated membership in relevant professional associations.
4. Viability and Relevance of Study/Research Plan:
   • Assessment of the feasibility and significance of the proposed study or research.
5. Relevance of Previous Studies:
   • Evaluation of the alignment of past academic endeavors with the oil and gas industry and the chosen course or research.

Applicants are required to submit the following documents along with their online application forms:

1. First Degree Certificate or Statement of Result
2. NYSC Discharge Certificate
3. WAEC/GCE/SSCE/NECO Results:
   • Include the PINs on the application forms for PTDF to access O’level results on the relevant website.
4. Recent Passport Photograph
5. Local Government Identification Letter
6. Master’s Degree Certificate:
   • Applicable to PhD Applicants only.
7. Evidence of Membership in Professional Associations:
   • Showcase your active involvement in relevant professional bodies.

Important Notices for PTDF Scholarship Applicants

1. Scope of Scholarship:
   • The scholarship is exclusively for the 2024/2025 academic session.
   • Limited to PTDF approved courses offered at PTDF partner institutions.
2. Relevance to PTDF’s Mandate:
   • Scholarships will only be awarded for studies aligned with PTDF’s mandate, specifically those pertinent to the oil and gas industry.
   • Applicants may face disqualification for pursuing programs unrelated to the oil and gas sector.
3. Course of Study Connection:
   • The proposed course of study must demonstrate a clear connection to the applicant’s previous academic pursuits.
4. Multiple Applications:
   • Candidates submitting multiple applications will be disqualified.
5. Previous Sponsorship:
   • Candidates previously sponsored by the Fund for a particular scholarship category (MSc/PhD) are ineligible to reapply for the same category.
6. Interview Requirements:
   • Candidates who successfully pass the initial screening will be required to attend an interview with their transcripts.
   • All applicants are strongly advised to prepare their transcripts in anticipation of this requirement.
